You could soak them with wd40 or similar, to coat them with oil, then wipe off, this will let it work its way into the entire tip and will help prevent rust. I had a bumper rusting on my first car, asked my dad how to prevent it, and he said "hold on" then went inside and came right back out with a jar of vaseline, he coated the whole bumper with vaseline, then wiped it off with a rag, never had more rust after that lol. old school.
