my air tubes are just sitting wide open and i run my truck in the mud all the time no issues. you can punch out cats by taking them off (safest method) and shoving a hammer handle or something similar in there to break out all the honeycomb. if you do it in the truck make sure you get it all out before reattaching or debris could jam into your muffler. when it comes to back pressure you dont want the exhaust to be too free on a fuel injected engine. they need some back pressure or youll lose power.. trust me. i know a guy that ended up with a 19 second 1/4 mile in a v6 camaro after getting straight pipes. most mufflers give you the back pressure needed to keep power even if cats are removed.
