My father had the same attitude with me, let me make my own decisions, and I can deal with the consequences, or gain the benefits. My dad and I even goof off together on the way to the drag strip from time to time...I've done some stupid things in cars, but not too much especially compared to most young drivers. I have no issue with anything on the street, as long as you don't endanger others...if I choose to race or do something wreckless and end up hurting myself, well that's fine I had it coming to me and it was my decision....but I make sure there's no one else around to get hurt (that includes in my vehicle...)

Save street racing for areas where there are no intersections, side streets, entrances, other vehicles, neighborhoods(have seen idiots in my neighborhood racing) etc... and if I get pulled over (and I have) and get a ticket then I'll suck it up and deal with it....but I've been let go when it's happened....had an officer ask me if I thought what I was doing was safe once and I gave him my answer and he said "ok" and let me go...
Your father didn't have an attitude, it was out of fear and love for your safety and well being. I assure you...you will feel the same thing your father did when you got your first car. It's easy and understandable why you say this now. Just wait till you hand him the keys...you'll be singing a different tune, lol! edit: Not to mention, your father handed you your keys, garners mom handed him his. I'll leave the rest up to your imagination.
