Default Exhaust question

Please correct me if I'm wrong. The exhaust system under my truck begins at the exhaust manifold to a pair of cat's then merge into a single pipe to the muffler where it spits again into two resonators before exiting out the back.
If this is correct, then a cat back system would replace everything other than the manifolds. Seeing as the two pipes would have to be cut to install a cat back, why not replace everything and include a couple of headers then?

Thoughts?
