Measure vertically along the length of the coil, like perpendicular to the coils. If you measure 2" and cut it there, you will get more than a 2" drop. If you want a 2" drop, start with a cut at 1", and use your judgement to keep working at the desired finish result. Guess and check, you may end up making several cuts but at least the springs are extremely easy to take out and reinstall, only about a 30 minute job total.
