Default Need help from a cooling system expert

I didn't know where to post this...

I'm trying to figure out a way to move the coolant reservoir on my truck. I don't know too much about these things and don't even know what type of system it is. I did some research and it looks like there are systems with overflow tanks and systems with expansion tanks. My main question is if I make an aluminum tank of the same volume and move it to the fender and reconnect any lines as they were, would this work properly? Does the top of the tank have to be at the same height as the original? Thanks for any help.
