I dont doubt it, it is amazing how the mineral based industry (mining, oil etc.) stay unaffected by recession and global downturn... I worked with people this summer that were going to gross nearly 200... but thats working like everyday of the year... in the 3 months I worked I had 811 hours, 6 days off for 12 weeks, worked 11.5 hour shifts.....
the POTASH mines in saskatchewan predict that in 5 years they will be 15,000 workers short and nearly 30,000 in 10 years... and the rate of pay out there is better than where I was, ticketed mechanics start at 43 bucks an hour, 7 bucks more than where I was... and the work is alot more slack from what I hear( it was pretty slack where I was too) I enjoyed every minute of the experience though, safety has come a very long way from what you would hear about 30-40 years ago..
