I thought this was interesting and I’m not sure how many folks are aware of this one so I thought I would share it. Recently my 09 RAM started giving me a check engine light when I give the truck full power. Now as much power as this truck has its very rare that I ever need to or have enough road in front of me to punch it. But in the last month I got the change to open it up a bit. The result was a check engine light. The faults where P1004 – short runner valve control performance, and P2016 – intake manifold runner position sensor circuit low. These issues are addressed in TSB 18-003-10. In short the fix was to take the intake manifold off and replace the short runner valve, the stud and wiring connector. The problem is caused because the wiring harness was cut to short at the factory and there isn’t enough slack to allow for some movement. So when I would punch it the harness would get pulled tight and cause a fault.
