Some kind of splash protection is a must, not an option up here in the north with the salt & sand on the roads. I always put them on for the winter and then remove them for the spring, summer & fall. I had the moulded splash guards on my truck for the first winter. When I took them off, there was a definite outline on the paint (white) from where they had been. If you're going the moulded (wrap around) route, some kind of paint protection is a must.

I decided to go the big rubber flap route this winter as they don't wrap around and offer more protection. We'll see how it looks in spring.

FYI...I ordered them from the local Dodge dealer & installed them myself. The cutout "V" you're talking about is there from the factory...nobody cut it out at the dealer. If you have a look inside the wheel well, you'll see that in order for it to fit nice & flat/flush, it has to be cut out there because of how the fender/wheel well "intrudes" a bit.
