No longer but was a volunteer fire fighter. Started when I was 16, worked through officer ranks, my last 3 years I was also training officer getting all of our members the required courses. It sounds pretty impressive but it was a small department of about 45 guys. I was just eager and took everything I could and moved up quickly. Funny thing is I never considered it for a career I totally enjoyed doing it to help out my community. Now I am a Electrical Contract Coordinator with the Department of National Defense and a Squad Leader on our Urban Search and rescue Team. I miss the Fire Dept and may go back if I can find more time.
I hear you on missing the fire service. I volunteered for two years and would love to get back into it. I would love to go full time firefighter but I have a criminal justice degree and it's ridiculously hard to get onto Des Moines Fire Department.
