Default 2013 8 speed trans

I am reading about the 2013 online. PUTC are reporting that Automotive news is reporting that an SEC filing revealed that the pentastar 6 and an 8 spd trans is in the mix for the 2013 Ram 1500. I thought that was already a given. It is not clear (to me anyway) if they are pairing the 8 speed only with the v6 pentastar. That would be the similar to the Grand Cherokee and Durango drivetrains. The claim is a 12% improvment in mileage. To me that sounds like a comparison between the outgoing v6 and the new pentastar+8 speed. I can't imagine 12% better mileage on the 5.7 by adding 2 more cogs. But it would sure be nice. Seems to be that even Ram folks were not quite up to speed on this yet. At least not the ones polled in the article. Anybody care to fill me in? Before my 2012 shows up!
