Yea man thats an old school trick, works great like a Holly dominator carb.
you can also bore it out a little and get more air flow/CFM's per min.
I have been doing it for years on all my little projects even bored & polished my chainsaw when I rebuilt it.
If you take off the intake to you can bore, polish & port match them so the edge's wher they meet together dont couse air terbulance and disruped the air flow giving you a beter fule optimization/ mist) & stronger torqe curve,Gets rid of that slight surgy feel when you are dead on it. Pile up some tricks like that & you will feel more diferance than a chip n exhaust any day.
Next try taking out the thermostat n cut a little off the spring about 3/8 or untill it runs around 160 to 175 n feel that torqe with the polish job on the air intake ! feels like a set of heads.
Like the old fox body 5.0 mustangs, The cooler it runs the more you can advance the timing.
