When they say coarse they mean it, it is like a scotch brite pad...
When it comes to LC pads, the most popular at the Orange for Cutting and the White for polish [and black for finishing].

I would personally go with the Blue Cyan Hydrotech pad from LC, versus the yellow or orange pads. I would also use the Hydrotech Tangerine for polishing versus a white pad.

And for what it's worth, microfiber cutting pads are becoming more and more popular. It may be worth researching as well.
