Hey Army,

The shift interlock solenoid is in the dash, directly behind the steering wheel. It keeps the shift lever locked in Park unless the brake pedal is depressed, preventing it from dropping into gear on its own.

I could hear the sound coming from that area, and feel the tapping when I put my fingers on the solenoid and actuated it with the brake pedal.

Like I said in my original post, the shift interlock solenoid only actuates when the shift selector is in "Park", so that rules out any problem with the U joints. How could they make noise if they're not rotating?

And yes, it's still working (releasing the shift lever from Park only when the brake pedal is pressed).

Two more days and it's the dealers problem.
