So after having this terrible Pinging in my ram that was worse going uphill, I did some research and came across this video
I determined it was the engine intake plenum gasket which had never been changed in the vehicales 126K life. So I got the hughes kit, had my mechanic professionally install it and clean the intake, and also replace the serpentine belt and do a tune up. Then I added some Techron fuel system cleaner to hopefully get rid of some of the carbon i no doubt accred with the broken gasket. So far so good, that disturbing pinging is gone and power is restored.
However there is still this slight clicking sound. Almost like a sputtering. Kind of like how it sounds when your headers start to give out. My cousin who had a second gen said the EGR valve is another common problem on these trucks, so I was just wondering what the symptoms of a malfunctioning one would be.
There is no knocking, stalling, or rough idling. Just this slight clicking sound like a baseball card in a bicycle spoke upon acceleration. Anyone have any idea what that could be?
My truck is now at 126K, so far Ive had the tranny rebuilt at 80K, and just the typical wear and tear parts replaced as needed, such a rotors, shocks, speed sensor, and finally the intake gasket. Are there Any other common problems with the ram that should be addressed?
