yeah you just replace the y pipe with a more free flowing piece(I'd weld it, although it's possible to clamp it) and then replace the muffler with a more free flowing one(again I'd weld it, but you can clamp it). I'd also replace the pipe under the transmission as it's crimped.

It'll perform almost just as good as duals with a crossover(and better than duals without a crossover). It'll just save you tons of money.
