Default Westin E-Series Step Bar Pads

Wondering if anyone else has made their own step pads for the Westin bars, the two rear pads on mine are missing, and the front ones will be the first time I drive in some heavy slush. Searched around and didn't find anything. The pads are held in by hokey push-in plastic nubs, thinking of making some out of heavy rubber (tire tread would work great if it weren't for steel belts).

Sure I could just pony up the bucks and buy new ones, but that wouldn't solve the problem, they'd probably just fall off again. Thanks.
