The overloads only start working once the bed is actually overloaded.Its the bottom most leaf that doesd not bend with the leaf springs during the normal range of articulation. Down side is you wont have the extra spring to help out the leaf springs when you are overloaded. I still use my truck to haul/tow and it sits just fine.
