Plasti Dip'd my chrome gas cover tonight, 1st coat went on and dried very smooth, second came out a bit gritty, think a bit thicker of a second coat would have solved that. But still very happy with my first plasti dip experience.
the trick is making your first coat very light and only spraying when its warm out. I even let my cans sit in the sun to warm up a little and the rest of the coats will come out smooth
no problem. I love plasti dip personally. ive dipped both bumpers, nerf bars, rims, gas cap, brake lights, and emblems. I like the black accents on a white paint job. the emblems can be pretty tough...sometimes pulling the dip from the inside of the closed letters can be tough without peeling some off. if that does happen I just spray a little puddle onto a piece of cardboard and use a fine paint brush to do the minor touch ups
once you start you wont stop, you will get better believe me and you will continually surprise yourself i am at the point where i have done a few of my friends and they owe me a decent sized favor now but i enjoy doing it, this is what i have currently done to my truck
also a little tid bit for posting pics here use photobucket then copy and paste their image links it is very easy and dont have to worry about image size and you can make your PB profile to private so only you can use it, it is free also

I like the stripe. was it difficult to get it done? ive read that you cant wait for it to dry because it will peel off the dip also. I really want to try using plasti dip to make some war paint but doubting myself a little
So I'm guessing it really is pretty tough stuff to be even doing bumpers. I am in love with it already, just wanna do everything lol. and thanks for the advice on posting pics, I had been wondering why mine also posted as thumbnails.
yeah i started and had same problems as you and it was a pain in the ass, the only problem i saw with it was i had the gray part of my bumper dipped and at the car wash that didnt last it doesnt connect with plastic very good but paint and chrome it will latch onto
Great ideas and tips. I've got a few cans in my garage and can't wait to start experimenting when I get home next week. Wheels, badges, grill, maybe even a stripe.
i dont know for sure i havent done my emblems and probably wont. but i hear they just take a section and square it off around it, then peel the overspray
the person you want to get in touch with about that would be ASILAYDYING and his truck he did all emblems and eventually whole truck he would know alot more about the whole emblem process
It's already been mentioned but I wanted to say definitely make sure it's warm (60+) outside or at least the can is warm by leaving it in the sun or put it on an air vent inside.
I might be getting off work early tomorrow and I have a few extra cans of dip so I think I might try spraying my own hash marks for my hood/fender instead of buying them. I'll post pics if I happen to get it done
Got the front emblem off no problem to spray, but back didn't want to work so well, so did it while on the truck, took a few trial and error times due to putting on too thick and dripping, but pretty happy with the finished product.
lookin' good guys! I did all my emblems today and it turned out awesome. One thing I would recommend... put on at least 5 coats and don't rush it. the more coats you make the easier it is to peel off around the emblems. I also used a toothpick to pick at the "hard to get" spots when removing the plasti dip around the emblems. After the emblems, I decided to spray the front windshield wiper fearing...the guy I purchased the truck off of painted it silver and it wasn't prepped well. after a few coats and giving it time to dry I decided to put it through a pressure wash and the plasti dip was still in mint shape.
Thanks ! I am defiantly addicted, good idea for the widers, was looking around debating what I could do next haha. Sadly it is 26 per can here. The color is burnt orange, I have read that copperhead pearl is a new 2013 color. The drivers side dip looks really good, love the smooth finish compared to a couple coats of rock gaurd.
Did the rear one first and found it dripped a lot for me, eventually got it to work, but decided to just take the front off, just held in by clips so was actually easier than taping off. Yeah, 26 per can is pretty brutal, makes it hard to practice cause you value every drop. I could get it a tad cheaper off ebay, but would rather pay a bit more than wait a month for shipping.
Hey man, I bet if you found the right person, they would buy some cans for you, and mail them to you and you send them 6 dollars. Or work a deal with someone. $26 per can is outrageous. I's check around the forum for someone willing to do that.
Holy Cow! $26 a can? Will dipyourcar.com ship to Canadia? I dipped my fuel door as well. My wife asked me why, I said because I could.
So far I've dipped my wheels, badges, emblems and grill. Bumpers and nerfs are next.
I only taped off for my emblems and badges - took the grill and wheels off. But for the emblems and badges I waited an hour or more before I peeled the tape off. I used a toothpick inside the letters and the dip peeled right out.
