I have a 03 Ram with the 4.7. I have heard people say these engines are bad to sludge up. Is this true? If so what can be done to help prevent this? Perhaps using 5w30 full syntheic motor oil? That is my only idea.
Personally I haven't seen a sludged 4.7 . If I were worried able sludge I'd have to agree with go with a good quality synthetic . Make sure you stop by the newbie section and introduce yourself .
Yup go with 100% synthetic like Amsoil if your worried about sludge. FYI had the 4.7 in my 08 dak with no sign of sludge however did have 100% syth in it from the first 1000kms.
if run the chrysler specified oil (with the API seal) and change it every 3000 you will be good to go.
i have 102,000+ and the inside of my motor looks damn near new - same for my dads with 160,000+
both trucks have had oil and filter changes every 3000.
