For one I am a huge fan of the turbo. My curiosity is has anyone put a turbo in for their 4.7L? This would excite me if someone did. If not guess I will have to figure out how to get one and install. :i_rolleyes:
having owned a Dakota and cruising though the post in that forum there where a few guys that ended up using super chargers one guy come to mind and that is blown 287
Yeah there were a few companies that made supercharger kits for the older 287 (paxton, kenne bell, etc...) no turbo's though I don't think. It's a shame there isn't much support for the new 287, with mild boost you could easily see 450-500hp.
yeah i understand a supercharger will get your power right then and there but i prefer a turbo over anything. they last longer for one. yeah it takes a little bit for it to spool up to get what you need out of it but when it does get there and your already gasing it at about 40 or so and you feel it thats the feeling i want to go for.
if there was a turbo available, dakotas owners would be raving about them. is dodge going to continue to use 4.7 engines or replace them with the pentastar engine?
i use to have a dakota and for the 4.7 there was plenty of stuff for them. well for the 2006 and under models. they havent really changed much with the 4.7s to this year. so why not slap a turbo in with your 2009 dodge dakota 4.7. there is plenty of people on the site i use to be on that would just throw things together.
Most rumor suggest the 4.7L will soon be out of production. That's not to say it's not a great engine though and it shouldn't have aftermarket support. A custom install would be the only real option as of now...although without tuning support it's pretty useless either way lol.
EDIT: I just don't understand why they don't offer the 4.7L in some of their smaller cars and the smaller suv's, it'd get good mpg and be powerful. The big ram isn't the best spot for the 4.7L IMO.
as you said just because the 4.7 is going out of production dont mean they cant keep building stuff for people with the 4.7 dodge ram. it would be a shame and would make these trucks pretty worthless if you couldnt do anything to them. i am waiting on the programmer to come out and then after that i will custom install a turbo.
