When you get the engine up to normal operational temperature, the fan should kick on. You cant miss the noise of it running. Could also be a bad radiator.....

As far as the misfire. you can pull the plug and check the condition and replace based on how it looks. You can also buy a good HEI spark tester to see if you are getting spark from the pack to the plug.
