Hi everyone, after driving my Hemi 5.7 for 3 days now, 215 miles. I am on love with it.
Drove 215 miles my MPG AVG is 18.9 combined city and highway.
Most of my driving is on post Fort Hood TX (I am military), and I am so happy with that MPG AVG, on my 06 F150 which was a trade for this nice RAM was around 11 - 13 MPG, I had a 8' bed heavy duty F150.
Buying a Hemi was a best decision so far, the truck is strong and the new interior is very well done. thanks dodge.
Question for the RAM owners since this is my first Dodge, is this a normal MPG for this truck?
I think your mpg will decrease in time. My mpg was high when I first got it. I was told it takes a while for the mpg computer to gather enough info to be accurate. I went from 17 mpg to 13.5 city and 17 hw. I'm okay with my mpg cause it's a hemi!
I have 6,500 miles on mine and I just got my highest MPG on a full tank ever.....it was 14.7 .....and that was mostly highway with the cruise set between 65-70.
I drive almost all highway miles and run 75-80 most of the time with lots of hills. I average anywhere from 14.5-15.5. If i slowed down then I figure I could easily get 16 or more. Too bad I cant keep my dang foot off that gas pedal.:smiley_thumbs_up:
i noticed a higher MPG after i hit 20,000 miles at 30,000 i changed my air filter & now i am at 38,000 & the normal every day mileage is higher than ever
I have 1,000 pounds of work items in my trucks bed all the time, so getting 17.5 MPG highway for me is a good thing
Welcome aboard!! First let me say I am disgusted by the temperature it was reading LMAO!!! JK...I am completely jealous.
that is really good MPG's hopefully it doesn't drop much past that...but hey it's a Hemi right? I think even if it drops a bit it won't be down to what your F150 was.
I changed my filter as well I only have 12000(kms) on it...but I changed the air filter to a K&N drop in filter (mod pics later) and it seems to be doing better, but it's only been 3 days LOL
A lot of factors come into play when you talk about gas mileage. One member was getting 23 MPG but keep in mind he lives where the terrain is all flat, he has a 2WD with 3.21 gears, and doesn't get on it very often.
Congrats on the new truck! They're neat aren't they? I would be really pleased with that mileage or a mpg less. I'm at 600 miles and 13.2 average. It's very hilly here and winter too, so hoping for improvement this spring.
2011 QC Big Horn 2WD... I only have 250 miles on mine. 50/50 highway/city 15.3mpg at the moment. This is better than the 13.1mpg I was getting on my 2007 Ram regular cab. Both with the HEMI.
LOL, thanks for the replay RootBeer, you r right its hard to keep the ECO light on i notice it today since we have so much power on our hands I mean Foot, lol). :smiley_thumbs_up:
I've been getting 13-14 in my daily drive to work, and seems to be about 17 on the highway. Of course, I insisted on getting the 3.92 rear gear so I could get the anti-spin diff. That right there should tell you why my mileage is a bit low....I love the sound of that HEMI when I mash it. I didn't know it was possible to love a truck....until I got this one.
The good thing is....I really anticipate this truck getting better mileage towing my boat than my 4.7 did in my 2003 Dak. I only got about 12 mpg towing...hoping for 13-14 with the Ram.
i think terrain and heaviness of ones foot are the main factors. i have 9k on mine and i get anywhere from 11-13 with or without the MDS engaged. so i figure my mpg's arent going to change, but i was able to get 16-17 on the highway with the MDS engaged. oh, and my wife was driving.
Yes my foot are very heavy, that was the reason for the lower MPG on my f150, I am on Central Texas and the terrain here is flat but I do a lot of driven on post (fort Hood) which is a slow moving traffic and 30m/h speed limit everywhere. I hope I can keep more than 11-13 city and 16-17 highway if not I will be happy regardless because now I own a HEMI!!!
That mileage is about right for the highway. I've been as high as 20 MPG when it's all highway. However you will see that drop if you do alot of stop and go driving with traffic lights. Nice to hear that your so pleased with the truck, I just love mine.
Yes I am very happy with the truck, still baby it, I never thought that I will own a Dodge since I drove the old ones from my old job (2000 to 2006)and they use to go to the mechanic a lot, especially after 100,000 (transmission). Dodge is a much better truck now. thanks for the response
with just 800 miles on mine I'm not real happy with gas mileage I'm getting I'm averaging around 15 mpg in my 2011 R/T most of this is city driving traded my R/T charger in on this and it was getting 22-23 mpg so guess that spoiled me but then my 05 Ram Rumble Bee was getting me about 19-20 mpg on avg and that was after mods. So I'm hoping mine does better once broken in.
Good luck with the new truck!!!!
I hope my MPG stays on 16-18 after broken in, if you look all the replays for this tread, everyone is getting around 13-15 tops. I am very happy with the truck, even if the MPG is not that good, I drove a slt 4.7 and didn't like it too much, after driving a hemi 5.7 i knew that will be my truck lol. thanks for the resp. 22dasher
Hi saunders1885, 9.5 is very low but I have the same problem as you: a heavy foot lol, I hope to keep my MPG as high as possible16-18. i don't know my gears ratio, but I will find out at the dealer. thaks for the resp.
When i first got the truck i was able to get 23 mpg max. now after all my mods im lucky to see 16-18is if i take it very slow. Im getting anywhere from 9 -12 average.
Not happy with my MPG-been cold here and with a mix of highway and town getting 11-12 mpg. Like all the other perks on this Laramie but hope fuel usage improves soon or this Ram may be on the Ford lot.
Have 3000 miles on mine and the avg is 15-16mpg. I am disappointed because the 2009 I traded avg 19-20mpg and the 2007 I had avg 17-19mpg. Hope it will get better but I doubt it.
Wow, good for you! I left Hood in 09. I just bought the truck and drove from CS to Denver. It's mostly uphill highway and I avg 20.5. Then I got home and through 225 miles of driving was down to 14. Hope it gets better....
