I have an 09 slt with 74,000 miles and so far I've had the third brake light leak, the windshield came unglued from the truck, replaced both tierod ends, pinion seal leaked, 3 exhaust manifold bolts broke, both front hub assemblies went out, and had to have the entire rearend rebuilt. Now the truck shuts off randomly and the service engine light has a mind of its own.
When i returned to San Diego after my cross country trip, i now had 94,000 miles on the '09 quad cab SLT
took it in for normal service & they found that the pinion seal was again leaking & the seal had just been replaced a bit over a month before that
side note:
i went to Walmart 2 days ago, they are carrying Royal Purple products now, surprised me !!
My first Dodge. Nice ride and no issues so far. 30,000 miles yesterday.
I was curious about the spark plugs and decided to join here. I have not done anything to my truck except de-badge it.
I paid $70.00 for 4 oil changes and 2 tire rotations. I have an extended warranty also.
I got two quotes today.
The first dealer (the one I bought from and have used since it was brand new) came back with a $1200 dollar quote!
I called back and they had many things on the quote that did not need to be done.
I told them I only needed the plugs, oil change with filter and air filter.
Cannot believe they wanted to rip me off.
The second dealer answered the phone and told me right up front exactly what I said above. Just a few bucks more, but did not try and take me for more money and services I do not need yet.
When I get there tomorrow, (first original dealer) I am going to tell them this and ask them if they want to continue to get my business, they need to be more truthful and actually look at whats required in the maintenance schedule.
Not real sure if it was a mistake? Or an attempt to perform more work than the schedule requires? I asked for a quote on a 30,000 mile scheduled maint? No more no less. What do you guys think?
^without specifically asking for something you really left it up to them. Kind of like asking a contractor to give you a quote on an addition to your house and they quote you $1,000,000 for an addition that takes up your entire property. You didn't tell them exactly what you wanted. A "30k mile maintenance" service is very ambiguous.
Bought my 2009 QC SLT used in October 2010 with around 36K miles on it. Three years later I've got around 108K miles on it.
- I bought it with the rear window motor not working. A month later and three trips to the dealership later, they fixed it under warranty.
- New tires in March 2011
- Both tails lamps have blown
- Third brake light started leaking last year so I sealed that up and replaced the lamp.
- More new tires in September 2012 (it may just be all the driving I do, but I can't seem to keep the tires up to par).
- Had all spark plugs changed at the beginning of 2013.
- New battery two months ago.
- Parking brake handle broke. Replaced that two days ago.
- Pinion nut recall done today.
- Front and rear brakes done today.
Oil is changed, tires rotated/aligned every 3-6K miles. I also have a K&N drop-in that I clean every once in a while. I'm running behind on the transmission flush and such, but I'm going to get that and some other things done next month. All in all, this truck has been good to me. Last year I started remodeling our house and have loaded her up with A LOT of heavy loads. It's just a great truck!!
I bought the truck used with 123,000km two years ago almost exactly. What she was used for I dont know, but I go to school In St.johns and go back out home every weekend which is 225km one way. I usually put on close to 700-1000km a week. It sure dont take long addin up!
I.ve got about 50k on it. Had a couple of recalls, no big deal, all cars have recalls these days. trans did act funny for a little bit, but problem went away before I could get it to the dealership. Passenger rear door lock works when it wants to. Oil changes and that's it. And the only thing I had to buy was 2 tires. the other tires are on the rear but still above 2/32". Drive it every day and still love it!
No major problems. Did the 90K tune up myself. Had the following changed out in the last year, AC condenser, AC fan motor, rear window motor assembly. Everything else has been routine maintenance or MODS... Truck still looks and runs like new!
2009 4.7 SLT Quad. One starter, one battery, weak bumpers, one change of plugs all 16 of them, one washer pump mod, 3 heater motors all the same position an still fighting with the heater vents/AC. One change of tires, original brake pads still. Valve cover leaking, 75255 miles.
2009 4x4 ST HEMI bought it in June 2012 (first vehicle) from a contracting company had about 122k miles. Today im at 145k, im not sure what the contracting company did to it maintenance wise, but thus far i have:
-redone whole break system after brake pad shot out of the caliper and wouldnt let go of the driver front rotor.
-replaced the battery
-regular oil changes
-changed all 16 spark plugs
-while changing spark plugs accidentally stepped on the A/C line that ran from the condenser to i believe the evaporator, let me tell you that was fun trying to find that line.
Things ive found wrong with the truck:
-the heat shield on the bottom of the truck has started to fall and drag the ground, had to cut off sections
-heat shield in engine bay on the hood has started to fall, made holes and zip tied back up(push pins wont fit anymore)
-passenger rear door automatic door lock has not worked since ive gotten the truck
-underneath seats in the storage area everytime it rains here(very often) water would fill up and soak the carpet under the seats. had to peel up the carpet and come to find there are two plugs there that over time the seal had broken down, added new sealant.
-was going down the road one day, hit a bump and from the Y-pipe back the exhaust FELL OFF, like off the rubber hangers, took it home re hung it and tacked it back up as not to have it happen again (true dual exhaust coming for Christmas)
-factory liner in bed has started to fade and can see paint underneath.
2011 1500 Sport 4x4 with 140,000 kilometres on it. Have had the main engine wire harness replaced as well as another major wire harness. Had the drivers front door glass replaced twice. Had passenger side upper control arm replaced, lifters done twice, both sides exhaust manifolds replaced, torque converter replaced, between puddle lights and turn signals on both mirrors probably 12+ lights, had both front fenders replaced under warranty due to bubbling, drivers tow mirror, drivers mirror module, bottom of drivers door under door panel repainted due to rusting, I'm sure there's more I've missed. Also have a prominent click noise lick a baseball card in a tire spoke when mds engages from about 60km/h until 28km/h or it goes away if I put it in tow/haul. Other than all those things I love my truck.
currently at ~82k miles
about 60% of the mileage is highway (550 miles back and forth DC to GA, or 1k GA to IA), rest city / town
change oil about every 6k
only 'mod' has been take off the radio antenna (who listens to the radio any more with XM/Pandora) and installed a drop-in K&N air filter (recently re-cleaned/oiled)
replaced stock tires at about 30k with BF Goodrich Long Trail (great highway tires)
zero problems - haven't even had to replace brake pads yet.
Im at 38,000 miles on mine, nothing major yet, just tires and front brakes. I still love it, only thing wrong is the leaky washer pump and still need to do spark plugs!
I traded my 09 a year ago with 160,000kms or 100,000miles:158:
Sport 4x4 crew cab in bright silver:smileup: 3:55 gears
Had the pinion nut back off and grenade rear , exhaust bolts snap off, control arms replaced, then the repaired rear pinion nut backed off an additional 3 times and was awaiting recall when traded.
What did I trade on??!!......
A 13 Sport of course with 8 spd and 3:21 gears
For those on the fence about the new trucks (13-14) and are unsure about upgrading to a newer model year, all I can tell you is I loved my 09 but this 13 they are gonna have to pry out of my hands.
Best vehicle I have ever owned PERIOD! And I have had quite a few over the years.
25,000kms so far and not a hiccup ( knock wood) lol
Runs 15.2 @ 91 mph and averages 900kms a tank
I see NO REASON you can't get 250,000 MILES from one of these fourth gen trucks.
