I want to remove the driveshaft in their lot to save myself $80. I know to remove the four bolts at the pinion flange and slide the slip yoke out of the back of the tranny. Some info I found on removal says to jack the vehicle, is this necessary? Do I need to have the parking brake off and vehicle in neutral, in which case I would chock the tires?? And I read SOME trans. fluid will come out when I pull the yoke, how much fluid are we talking here? Please let me know if Ive missed anything. Oh yeah, how much is this thing gonna weigh, 10-20lbs, thats my guess.

Well finally getting my drive shaft rebalanced today, dropped it off last night. Would have done it sooner but my daughter got the swine flu last week and we had a wedding to go to on halloween so been busy but its getting done today. Ill let you all know how it goes, im freakin excited (wierd I know). Not that its a horrible vibration but its annoying, when I bought the truck man that sucker was as smooth as glass at any speed, and I cant wait to have that back again.

Picked up my truck from the shop yesterday, I was haveing my drive shaft re-balanced due to some minor but noticable vibration coming from the rear. The guy told me it was out of balance and that a weight had deffinatly fallen off, however, he would be surprised if this was the cause of my problem. He said he had been doing this type of work now for 20 years and had never seen an issue of an out of balanced shaft being such a contributer to noticable vibrations, although not to say it couldnt happen. They did weld two, pretty good sized weights on it. Started down the road and she was vibration free, except for road imperfections of course. So happy now that its done and smooth sailing. I would encourage folks to check this out as a possibility as it seems to be widely overlooked based on the VERY few places that do this type of work in my area at least, and what the guy that balanced it had told me.
