"Loud" as in obnoxious, or "loud" as in good? I guess it will depend on the person. I'm 2nd guessing my decision to buy an open-box design. I may have to save up/hold out for the S&B or Volant.

Its exactly what you said.....dependent on the person.
For me it sounded good at first and then it just became annoying to me 3-4 months later, so I sold it.

I put a K&N intake on my truck in january, and just put a magnaflow cat back with the 18" muffler on it yesterday. Overall, the truck is obviously louder. But now at high revs, the intake noise mixes with the exhaust noise and it sounds like the truck is destroying the earth, which is a good thing. It's basically a loud, awesome, jumbled mess of WAAAAHHHHH!!!

The k&n will not get louder but your truck will seem louder due to the exhaust.
I really didnt hear the CAI till I got on the pedal, The exhaust could be heard at all levels except for cruising and when off the pedal and that goes for the CAI as well.
