Default Check engine light is on

My check engine light went and my mechanic ran the code and it says its the catalytic converter. Since speaking with my mechanic the light has gone on and off several time. It might stay off for a week or so and then go back on.

Should I try to replace the 02 sensors or just replace the catalytic converter.......Thanks

I always thought a faulty O2 sensor code would specifically say "O2 Sensor" and the specific side/bank when read on an OBD2 Scanner.

The fact that your reader specifies "Catalytic Converter" may mean it's actually that.

I'll let someone else with a little more know-how than me chime in.....
