Not completely true because if you have a warranty claim you need to provide documentation the required services were done. Part of the documentation includes mileage and date of services. Easy to do if the service is done by a dealer or independent repair facility where the mileage and date is printed on the invoice. It does become a little fuzzy when the owner changes his own oil, since the owner could write down any date in his/her log.
