This may be a silly question, but didn't ZF invent the LSD? you would think they would knoww how to make a decent one by now.

I highly dought ZF invented the LSD. If so, i`d like to see the proof.
They sure as hell dont know how to build a differential either.

First production car with LSD was studebaker in 1956

In 1932, Ferdinand Porsche designed a Grand Prix racing car for the Auto Union company. The high power of the design caused one of the rear wheels to experience excessive wheel spin at any speed up to 100 mph (160 km/h). In 1935, Porsche commissioned the engineering firm ZF to design a limited slip differential that would perform better. The ZF "sliding pins and cams" became available, and one example was the Type B-70 for early VWs.

What was the outcome of this? I have a 11 and want to install 4.10's but heard of the modifications required to the carrier. Was the shop able to do it? Price they charged and where are they located? The front was swapped with no modifications right? Thanks

Been running it for 14months/20k miles with no issues minus a rear pinion seal and left front axle seal. You can just buy the RT carrier for the rear for a drop in install. But if ur gonna pay that go 4.56 imo. Front is the same as the 03+ years.

If you wanna go lower pm me. I can have my shop in Norfolk do it.

I was told to give the guys at modernperformanceengineering a call. They may have a program where I buy there modified carrier and swap it out with mine on the day of install and ship it back to them for some money back.

By your shop do you mean the shop can do that mod too and send it to me? Are they can do the install? Do you know the pricing on a RT carrier and if it would be more cost effective to do that then pay someone to modify mine are send mine and have to wait to have it modified? I was planning on running my 33's are going no more then 35's so I figured 4.56's would be too much, what do you think?

Thanks so far for the info

the zf carrier doesn't need to be modified to accept the ring gear, it is the ring gear that need to be modified to accept the zf bigger bolt , it need to be drill out with bigger hole , without mod or swap, the biggest ratio you could have is 4.10 but they don't do it for 4x4 because 4.10 is on the rt only, hope this help
