Default shopping and have ???'s

new here so first thing is hello! I'm looking for my first truck and leaning towards a 1500. I'm budgeting around 20k so i think I'm looking at 2006-2009. my main question is what should some warning signs be when buying a used truck? does those years require a tune for a CAI? or is that just a bolt on for pick-ups? should i stay away from suspension mods assuming previous owners abused them in the woods? these guys look awesome with bigger tires and lifts and wouldn't mind if someone ate the price of doing that so i didn't have to, anyways all input would be great. thanks in advance

On a Ram, I would have it inspected by an independent shop. Pay particular attention to the condition of the fluids, steering linkages and suspension. Make sure no warning lamps are on. You don't need a tune for a CAI but if you want to add some HP, a CAI, tuner and cat back exhaust are an excellent starting point. I believe you can locate a truck in your price range that hasn't been abused but still has something like a leveling kit and some aftermarket wheels and tires.

You may be able to get a 2012 Ram Express with the HEMI engine for about $20,000
If you go for an older one, you may be able to get one that has some modifications as you mentioned

thanks for the reply, i wont want any more HP, i was just concerned because i have seen 1 or 2 for sale with a CAI, i had a wrx and that required a tune for a CAI so that was something to look out for on a used vehicle.

Your budgeting is VERY reasonable for the year models/generation you specified, and should get you a nice truck around that price range.

Welcome to the Z family.
