Default Coolant and oil question

I just had all my fluids flushed and replaced on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9l with 92K mi. Runs great and there are no leaks visible. I just changed my exhaust to a straight pipe to a muffler yesturday as well. This was professionally done. I have two questions.

1.) I noticed since about a week ago, my coolant in my resevior bottle is almost empty when cold. I refilled it to half way again. My heater core has been by passed as well so no heat but no leak either and the water pump was changed to a new one a few months ago.

When I start the truck up, there is some white smoke for about 2 min then it stops. The smoke is not thick either. There is water that drips from the tail pipe as well for a little bit. If you took a spray bottle and sprayed 2-3 times on mist close to the ground that is what it looked like.

Is this normal and do you think its still burping?

2.) I have lost about a 1/2 qt of oil according to the dip stick when its cold. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I would pressure test the cooling system and cap to verify the systems integrity. If they both pass, top off the coolant in the radiator and resivoir and just keep an eye on them from time to time. The smoke could just be condensation in the exhaust system as is the dripping you see.

The loss of engine oil is most likely to be from a blown intake plenum pan gasket. All 3.9/5.2/5.9 engines do it and oil consumption with no visible leaks is the most common symptom, followed by fouling the plugs on the rear cylinders, and smoke from the exhaust. New gaskets from the dealer and aftermarket have been redesigned to eliminate this issue.

That being said, a leaky intake gasket could also be causing your loss of coolant and this wil be fixed along with the plenum pan gasket since the intake has to come off anyway. I also recommend installing a new set of intake bolts because the front two typically break off during removal. This is also an ideal time to replace the plugs, wires, cap and rotor if needed.

Either OEM parts or Fel-Pro gaskets and Napa ignition parts.
