Smile Future Plans with the Truck

Hello,

I need your guys' input because I am not as familiar with aftermarket parts as you are. I am looking to get a new set of wheels and tires. I would like to get 17" fuel off-road wheels with 35" bf goodrich mud terrain tires. I'm not sure how the sizes work as far as bolt pattern, offset, and overall tire go (i.e. 265, 285, etc). Could you explain how the dimensions work and what would you recommend I get? Money isn't necessarily an issue. I currently have an '05 1500 QuadCab 4x4 Laramie with the 5.7L Hemi. Do I need specific parts or suspension pieces to make this fitment work? I am also considering a 3"-5" lift sometime in the future.. not a priority right now though. Thanks.

The bolt pattern of your rims will have to be 5x5.5" or 5x139.7mm. If they offer them a 9" wide rim would probably be ideal although anything in the 8-10" wide range would work. With a 9" wide rim you would probably want to go with on offset close to zero or maybe even less to make sure you can run a wide mud tire without rubbing. Offset less than zero becomes negative offset. Common negative offsets are -12, -18, -24, etc. Less offset = more rim sticking out from under the fender.

As for tires, I would probably recommend a 35x12.50x17. That's a nice, meaty tire and a common size in mud tires. With a 9" wide rim with close to zero offset this size will fit just fine. It's also big enough you could probably still run them with a mild lift. I would recommend raising the front end up to level the truck at least with a 35" tall tire. On your 2005 this can be done easily and for only the cost of a front end alignment.

I just checked out the specs on the Fuel Hostage and strangely enough I don't see them listed in a 17" 5x5.5/5x139.7. I do, however, see them listed in an 18" rim. Offsets offered are +1 and +20. If you were to choose this rim for example, you would obviously want to go with the +1 and then a 35x12.50x18 tire.

Hope this helps!

Thumbs up

Wow,

Thank you very much! I now have a better idea of what I'd like to do and what I am allowed with the current setup.
