I have a 2005 1500 I purchased used with 75xxx miles and I have been having issues with my ball joints, wheel bearing and slightly more tire wear on the insides of the tires. When I purchased the truck (first truck) I had no idea about torsion bars or what they do. The person before me had cranked them much too high and it was leading to the problems I was having. Just wanted to post this as a warning! Replacing all of the things that could go wrong can be pricey and time consuming.

I am still loving mine but then again I don't put too many miles on my truck. I'm a pretty firm believer that if you only lift the front a moderate amount (~1.5" or less, maybe 2" although I personally wouldn't push it) and have it properly aligned afterward, you will not see any negative effects. That being said, obviously getting overzealous on the lift or not having a proper alignment or any alignment at all can cause some serious issues.

Just FYI tdnguy, certainly not saying the overcranking didn't contribute to your issues, but from what I have read it isn't extremely uncommon for the third gen trucks to have front end issues at relatively low mileage. My 2004 only has 74k miles and the boots on all four ball joints are split. Even so, I just took it to a trusted mechanic and had him and his alignment guy examine the front end a few weeks ago and he said everything is well within tolerance and nothing in need of replacement yet.

And one last thing for anyone wanting to level but still concerned about cranking the TB. Another option is to lower to rear with drop shackles and then make the exact adjustment with the TB. I'm seriously considering installing drop shackles on mine right now and lowering the front back down with the TB to keep the level stance but eliminate some of the huge tire-to-fender gap. Quality shackles can be had for ~$75.
