Has the intake plenum pan gasket ever been replaced?

Checking for a blown plenum pan gasket is going to be the next step since you've already covered the secondary ignition.

A compression test will not show you the same things a leak down test will and it won't show you a blown plenum pan gasket. You need to follow this bulliten in order to correctly diagnose a blown plenum pan gasket. http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=46305

I'm having the same problem with my pickup except I had the spark plug on my cylinder 8 break apart. I changed out the plug but wasn't able to find the ceramic piece that broke apart. It ran fine for about 500 miles, now my check engine light is back on and the code reads the same cylinder 8 misfire

Well, Logan, I had the exploding spark plug problems with my 98, the pieces all went thru the exhaust just fine, (several times) but to cure the #8 detonation, I had to replace the plenum gasket. I couldn't figure out what was causing the #8 misfire, and detonation, with the exploding spark plug prob, for a long time, initially, now any misfire code pretty much tells me that the prob is that flippin gasket.
