Question 2500 Axle Ratios

Does anyone know what the tow numbers are for the different axle ratios of the 2500 are? The Ram website doesn't list them for the 2013. When I look at the options for the 2013 2500 on NADA it looks like it comes standard with the 3.73 but has an option for an upgrade to the 4.1. Not only will this be our primary tow vehicle but it will also be my daily driver for work. Just trying to figure out if the MPG difference between the 4.1 is worth it for the tow ratings.

Is it the same as the 2012 numbers? According to the 2012 numbers the 4.1 can pull 13,900 vs 10,900 for the 3.73. I wonder what the MPG difference is between the two?

Thanks.

The ratings are not out yet, at least i have not seen them

I would look at the 2012s for a reference

remember that the 2012s have a 6 speed
The 2013s should have the 8 speed & will make some if not a lot of difference going through the gears while towing

Really? Everything I've seen (NADA, etc) for the 2013 2500 has only listed the 6-speed. Has anyone ordered a 2500 and gotten the option for the 8-speed? I was also curious about the air suspension option for the 2013. I mentioned it to the sales guy at a dealership this weekend (see the "Good Deal?" thread on how that went) and he laughed it off and said it wasn't available on the 2013's.

I would highly doubt that the 8-speed will be available on 2500/3500 (at least on diesel variants, maybe hemi)

Currently, even the high torque model ZF 8-speed can only handle something like 900-1000Nm.

I'm not planning on ordering the diesel.

in June you can order a 2014 2500

you are correct about the current 2500 & 3500s, 6 speed or the Aisin AS69RC

the 2014 may get the The rumored 6.4 liter Hemi

Well I'm not in a spot where I absolutely have to order this right now. I could easily wait until June. Does it make sense to wait until then?

If you current vehicle is still working for you, then waiting a bit won't hurt
not only that, but the 2013 Rams have a new technology, it is part computer, part radio & it is not quite up to par, in a couple more months they should have it nailed

Here's a link to the 2013 Ram HD tow ratings... Includes both Hemi and Cummins and the different rear ratios...

http://blogs.cars.com/files/2013-ram...500-charts.pdf

There is no 8 speed trans option or air suspension for 2013. I have not heard any rumors for any 8 speed in the Ram HD trucks, but air suspension is supposed to be an option... eventually.
