Default ARH Long Tube Problems?

I've read in several posts that although the sound, look and gains from the American Racing long tube headers are without question, some have had problems. For the life of me I can't find any dedicated problem posts here on the Z. I'm seriously considering a 3/4" set with cats but I'm nervous that I can't find what the specific problems are. Can someone point me in the right direction or detail the issues?

Fit and quality are top notch with them. There is lots of material in the primaries and manifold plate so they won't warp. I was even able to port the ones for my '07 to the eagle header's exhaust port and there's still material left. I can't say I've heard any issues with the ARH other than a few that did cat delete or had O2 sensor issues, both of which are tune related. A set of LT headers should always get a custom tune and the issues I have seen over the past years have all been because the installer did not take that into account.

I just suggest to buy the entire kit. I ordered just the headers and it didn't come with header bolts. Unless you can get manderal bends for cheap then get the kit, and you will need o2 extensions for the front sensors.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I had a feeling that there would be issues if you went catless but not otherwise.

Now this seems like a pretty extensive package. Do I really need sensor extensions? And lastly, has any documented actual HP gains of these headers vs the shorties by themselves, no other modifications?

Since you have your intake opened up you will see gains by increasing the outflow as well. Yes, they are an expensive kit, but you're also getting a proper y-pipe, high flow cats, and a set of high quality LT headers. You will need sensor extensions for the rears, but sounds like for all 4 O2 sensors from what I've been reading over the last day on a few forums, I didn't have issues with my '09.

I think the kit comes with o2 extensions. The only issue Ive read so far is someone on another forum got the redesigned ARH long tubes and had some slight fitment issues. He said some of the bends on the mid pipe and crossover pipe where slightly off. he dyno'd in 4th gear and came out with 373/383 uncorrected. I know he has hemifever tuned CAI,4.10's, 18" maggy, His last dyno he posted shorty headers stock tune was 307 hp.

Ironchief,

I just purchased and personally installed a set of ARH LT headers with cats on my 12 ram 4x4. I can concur with Cdnoilram the quality is great. The kit comes with EVERYTHING to include 4 O2 extensions, header bolts, clamps, and of course sweet stickers.

I had two issues installing the kit, the first one (and this is due to some jack ass engineer) was the damn dip stick. There is a lower bolt that is almost impossible to get to let alone remove. On my truck (not sure if it is because of the 4x4) I could not back the bolt all the way out because of the engine mounting plate. It took me over 3 hours just to get it out and that was after taking a Dremel and grinding the bolt head off. FYI, I pulled the starter to make more room.

Second issue, was reinstalling the dip stick! I did not install the lower bolt at all, also had a good time getting the damn thing back in its home... I eventually used a long flat tipped screwdriver and tapped it until fully seated.

I did the driver side first took me the good bit of a day due to the dip stick. The passenger side was really easy! It was so easy I felt as though I was cheating or something. Maybe an hour and she was installed.

One last tip, you will need to reuse about 17 inches of pipe just prior to the muffler SO DO NOT CUT IT! I cut the stock pipes at the Y-pipe when removing and that worked out great.

If you have any questions send PM me and i'll do my best to assist you in anyway.
