I knew something was up because we was close through 1 & 2 gear but when he hits 3rd he can just run the hell out of the rpm's and walk off

these motors will take more then you think...when I'm racing I'm bangin close to 7k and she's still on the original bottom end with over 233k miles on it...

thanks for the backup chefred i know it can handle it bout the highest it gets is 6500 in 2nd prime im havin to shift to 4th/3rd right at the line. i got a buddy that has his chevy truck with cammed 6.0 junk yard motor shift points at 6800 every gear. of course he has valve springs too match his set up. chris b seen it run at the track its nasty when he hits that

I don't worry about the bottem end at all, never even crosses my mind, but the springs are prone to float and fail on the 5.7L. I have the 6.1 springs and take it to 6500 fairly often, on my next tune revision its going up to 7k so I have some wiggle room at the traps on the stock tires.

These engines in stock form fall off at 6200 rpms so what's the point of shifting out at 6500 or winding it up to 6800? And the reason why junkyard motors are still around is because they were put together right and nicely balanced so there's nothing surprising about what they are capable of. But these aren't junkyard motors, they have to live long and earn that title. chefred is one of the few lucky ones who wound up with a good engine build from the start. He's definitely earned his opinion here so I'm not trying to step on his toes but he doesn't have a stock top end. I've always had my suspicions that beating it up and driving it hard toughened them up so I guess ya never know. Sounds a little crazy but it's about the only reasonable explanation I can imagine you doing this, lol!

I think you don't realize the effect this has on your engine. You produce significantly less torque at those rpms than at lower rpms, too. And with a stock cam significantly lower hp too. Would be better/faster to shift and stay in the power band of the cam.
