Default 2008 1500 front shock replacement help

What's up everyone this is my first post here on this particular forum and hope I can get some good feedback.

I am looking to replace my front and rear shocks this coming weekend. I am replacing the stock shocks with Bilstein HD's (I believe called the 4600). I was curious if people on here have done them themselves and if so do you have instructions or a website that will explain what is needed to do it.

Also is anyone aware if the shock itself can just be removed or the entire coil over and shock assembly needs to be moved and than a spring compressor used to get the shock out? It would be much easier if the old shock can just slide out while the coil over remains installed!

The rears are self explanatory, but the fronts with the coil overs is where it gets a little tricky. I have a good mechanical sense so taking on this job won't be hard it will just take time which is better than paying a mechanic almost $100 an hour, any feedback will be much appreciated thanks!!!

I'm about to do the same job but since I have a 2003, there are no springs. I wasn't aware there were springs on a 1500...

his 2008 has springs. yes u have u remove the whole assembly on the front. then rent a spring compressor to compress the spring (be careful!) then u remove the shock and put the new one in. google "bilstein 5100 install pic heavy" it's a link to a different forum.

this one is useful

You must have a 4wd, 02-05 4wd have t-bars (although a torsion bar is a form of spring), 02-05 2wd have coil springs up front. 06-08 suspension was redesigned, 2wd still has coils, but 06-08 4wd have struts.

As stated, you will have to compress the spring to get it all apart. If you can't or aren't comfortable with it, most shops will swap them for you.
