An open differential will extend your tire life also since it isn't trying to turn both tires the same speed through dry corners.
Maybe just a few cases of you're screwed on ice no matter what! A full locker is a bit of a different beast compared to a LSD, even though the principal is the same when they are engaged, practice is different from theory.

Your right, I was trying to show the two extremes. The open differential won't push your vehicle through a turn. A full locker will. The LSD will fall somewhere in between depending on difference in wheel speed, quality of the limited slip and condition of it. I have had LSD that don't do crap and then I have others that would squeal the tires around a corner.

I was hesitant to buy a Ram too but after 3.5 years in an 09 I am very happy I did. It has been a great truck all around. I have a tick, but I like it. It doesn't sound bad or like anything is wrong. So after reading all about it and no bad sequela have been associated with it I have no concerns about it.
You'll love your Ram, but make sure you read about gears. Most come with 3.55's, my only regret was not getting 3.92's.

'13 Sport CC here - No tick. I had an '04 reg cab that had the tick. I always heard it was because of not running 89 octane (dealer recommended) but it never bothered me enough to test that theory out on my own.
