I just read about a GF-6 standard set to be inplace in a couple of years. This will set even higher performance standards for the 5W-20, and will introduce a new SAE 16.

Besides the viscocity effects at the sliding 2 piece push rods for the MDS, we have to remember, that when the MDS is activated for some time, those deactivated iiner cylinder walls, psitons, and rings, will not be at normal operating temp. This again, may be another advantage to the 5W-20 for wear on these cylinders, especially the top ring. I think this is of enough concern, that if the MDS is on for too long, it goes back to 8 cylinders for a breif period to re-heat them.

I meant 2 piece lifters, not push rods.

My 05 non-MDS Hemi takes 5w-20 according to the manual and filler cap. Same as my 07 Mustang GT. Seems fairly common on newer vehicles. On the mustangs, people have been using 5w-30 without any problems. They don't have MDS, but have variable valve timing.
