Default 5.9 Slug

Hi everyone I am a newbie to the fourms,I just purchased a 1996 2500 short bed 5.9 manual 5 speed and drove it back to IL from MI. pulling a 2010 chrsyler town-country and this thing is a slug on upper half of the throttle. It was hard pressed to run 65 MPH. This being my frist Ram for years is this normal for this truck?
Thanks Ed

In OD...yes. Very much so.
I'd say for a 17 year old truck with goodness knows how many miles on it pulling a 4k plus van on a trailer you did ok.

Towing in OD is not a great idea, auto or stick.

The truck has 125,000 miles on it.
Is there anything I can do to help it?

Just a heavy truck with an under-powered engine. Same engine design for 40 years, but with the right amount of love, you can bring a few of the old horses back.
