Default 275/60/20 or 305/50/20? Would like to decide today (pics)

Getting ready to put some street tires on my truck. I have been beating my head in for the past two weeks trying to decide whether to go with stock 275/60 or 305/50 on the stock 20's. My truck is an 04 4x4 with 2" drop shackles and I have also been toying with removing the overload springs for an extra 5/8-3/4" drop but I am undecided on that as well. I want the extra width but I'm afraid the 1" shorter height of the 305 will look too short. I found some pics of a stock 2wd Ram that is otherwise similar to mine that is wearing 305/50's and I'm using it for comparison. What do you guys think I should do? I would like to order today to go ahead and get them in this week and take advantage of DTD's black Friday sale which ends today. Thanks in advance for any opinions and also thanks to the folks that have weighed in on this decision in the other thread that I mentioned it in.

Stock 2wd with 305/50

My truck with 275/60

I like the stance on that 2wd if it's a street look you're going for. Especially if you remove the overloads. Your stock tires still have a lot of sidewall leaving them looking a little on the bulky side.

305/55 would actually be a good compromise but they aren't available in a street tread tire like I want...only A/T tires. Same for the 295/60.

Have you looked at the Nitto 420's in a 305/50-20?

Yes, I have actually. I had decided to go with either the Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus or the Nitto 420s if I went with the 305/50. I was leaning towards the Nitto because of the extreme tread design. I really like it. The problem is that I am afraid the 305/50 (being an inch shorter than the stock 275/60) will look too short and leave too much fender gap. Eliminating some of the fender gap was the whole reason I recently put the drop shackles on.

I ended up ordering a set of the Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus in stock 275/60/20. It kinda sucks because I really want the width of the 305 but I'm just afraid I will regret the shorter tire. The Coopers haven't come in yet. I am hoping for this week but if not they should be in next week.

I think wider is always a better looking tire than skinnier. I don't know how anyone could argue otherwise.

Wow, this is a really old thread. But apparently it's still getting a vote or two because I have seen it pop to the top of my recent posts list. As stated above, I went with the Cooper 275/60/20 and I am glad I did. While I would love to have a 305 for the extra width and the tread design of the Nitto 420 is just plain wicked, I think I would have been unhappy with the shorter tire. Some have said that an inch difference in height isn't that much or wouldn't really be noticeable but I disagree. That inch of overall diameter combined with the short sidewall appearance would be very noticeably in my opinion. I wish someone made a 305/55 in a street tire rather than all-terrain as that would be perfect. Oh well, I am happy with my decision and the Coopers have turned out to be some excellent tires.
