It feels like it is supposed to be that way. Took me a few drives to get used to it but now I actually prefer it. It is much better than I was expecting. And I actually hated the idea of it when I first started looking but I decided I would try something new and thought the better transmission would make up for having the knob. And now I am very happy with the knob and the transmission! Also it gives you much more space in the center console.

I didn't think I would like the "Shift Knob" and really prefer the floor or console mounted shifter, but what the hey the 8-speed so far is fantastic..!! I turn the "Knob" and go.... turn the "Knob" when I stop, no big deal...

once you re-train your brain to grab for the knob instead of the console or steering wheel shifter it is no big deal.

Default No Knob For Me

No GF I didn't go for the 8 speed, mainly because it's the first year for it
and I didn't want to take any chances. Plus, I really like the console shifter and I'm really not fussy on that knob shifter. From the people who have the 8 speed it sounds like they really like them and if they remain reliable and there are no hiccups along the way I'll probably wish I had one at some point...Oh well...next one. By the same token, it's not something I'm missing, the 6 speed is great and I'm really enjoying my new truck...I love the way it drives...Have you decided what you're going to do yet.....???

EZ

I recently made the decision to step down from my ’04 2500 Cummins to my ’13 1500 and my only regret is that I just love diesels but our new house is only 4 miles from work and I couldn’t do that to a diesel. Other than that my new 1500 is so amazing compared to my older ton. I don’t miss having a bigger truck AT ALL. When people ask me why I feel that way the best way I can explain it is that my new truck feels like half truck half sports car compared to my old truck.

I realize this isn’t quite apples to apples but I think you’ll be very happy with your choice to get a new 1500.
