Default Custom Made Oil Separator

Just join this forum. Anyways, there are a lot people who have the internal PCV system wondering if/how to put a catch can on. I put an inline filter from the oil filter spout to the intake. I know it won't catch all the oil(since the PCV valve is in the intake), but I'm sure it will trap some oil mist. I've attached a picture. Any input is welcomed!!!

I hate to say it, but you won't be picking up much with that setup. The 2 places you see vapors introduced into the intake manifold are at the back of the intake under the throttle body via the PCV and at the front of the intake through the EGR. Oil mist is not generated under the fill cap and at best you MIGHT pull some moisture that builds up under the cap.

If you want to have a catch can on a 3rd gen, then you can pick up a 5.3L Vortec PCV and install it into one of the valve covers then seal off the stock PCV and use they system you have. This will allow you to pull oil vapors and start filling that catch can.

You figure,eh? When I pulled the hose off of the oil spout there was some oil film. I figure I would try something and see if it would catch anything. I'll check on it from time to time and see if anything collects in there. If not, I'll just pull it off.
