Default 14mpg on 2005 Ram 3500 4x4 quadcab shortbed

This truck is getting at best 14.5mpg in "milage" mode with an EDGE CTS with Attitude tuner, S&B air intake, 4inch cat back exhaust, with stock suspension and 285/70/17R tires on it. I put the before and after tire sizes in the tuner and this is what I'm reading...my tach seems spot on as the tuner and my truck are both reading 70mph on the freeway. I do about 60% driving on the freeway and 40% around town I'd say. Not at all driving agressively. Used to get 13.5mpg with my 2004 Ram 1500 HEMI quadcab short bed 2WD with 6in lift, 35in grapplers, K&N intake...what gives?

My buddy has a 2004.5 dually with 6in lift and 22.5 semi wheels on it and is getting 19mpg with bullydog tuner and got 22mpg before his mods and same numbers on the clock as I with 92,000.

I just picked this truck up so I'm going to go thru it with maintenance but I gotta say I'm a bit worried at how low it is....

You mentioned 70mph on the freeway. Is most of your driving on the freeway at that speed? The reason I mention this is aerodynamics plays a role in mpg also. For instance, I recently took a trip to the GA Dome with mostly 4 lane state highway and interstate driving between 65 mph and 80 mph the majority of the time. I averaged 17.5 mpg according to the dash indicator (it was 17 mpg hand calculated) on this seven hour round trip. Yesterday, the family and I went to the beach and most of the driving was on two lane state highways and it was all I could do to run the posted speed limit, which was mostly 45 and 55 mph because of traffic conditions. My dash indicator read 20.5 on this round trip of five hours. Both trips were very similar in that traffic was moderate and I didn't get stuck in any bumper to bumper, stop and go BS. Only difference was the speed.

So I kicked it down a notch and made freeway speeds max out at 65mph and been driving this baby light as a feather on the accelerator. Best I'm getting is 15mpg over a tank of gas I got roughly 500miles to a 34gallon tank and that is worse than 15mpg.

Taking your two numbers in account 17.5 and 20.5 are both a lot better than mine!!

Alignment seems fine..no pulling either direction...I'm thinking about replacing the fuel filter and seeing if that helps...

I just checked and I've got an Aero exhaust system so don't know much about them.

The 2010 and newer 3500's don't get great fuel mileage. They will drag a house around the subdivision without breaking a sweat.

Ya that 6.7 is a dog when it comes to fuel economy because of all the gooberment emission's BS but my 5.9 lightly tuned has better power numbers than a stock 6.7 and has better mpg's....

pull MAP sensor and clean it, they are known to get dirty and cause a loss of mileage.

Awesome thanks for the tip. I changed the fuel filter with a MOPAR one (it was completely black and filthy) and cleaned off the MAP sensor with choke cleaner and I've already seen 0.8mpg increase in my daily commute to work. We'll see how much better I can do. Maybe change the tranny oil and get a larger pan since I'll be towing regularly soon.
