Default Intake Manifold and Carb

New to the forum and new Dodge owner. Bought an 88 D150 with the 5.2, just over 100k miles. The TBI is not working well, and when I got it, the cat had already been cut out and pipes welded up. Pulled the motor recently and have it stripped down, but decided to do the carb swap and pull the smog stuff off since it was all plugged/disconnected/non-existent already. Thinking that I may run down to one of the local salvage yards here and grab an 1987 or earlier intake manifold, instead of buying one from Summit. Does anyone know if a pre-88 intake manifold will bolt right up to my 88? Thanks.

Pre '88 intakes should fit without issue.

if you are grabbing a carb and intake off a older engine make sure it does not have lean burn system. lean burn carbs don't have a vacuum advance port. they usually have a computer behind the fender or on the air cleaner. if you can find a 86-87 and it don't have lean burn setup you should grab the wiring harness, distributor and all the electrical components. a 86-87 wiring harness should just plug in but you may have to unplug the fuel pump. plus getting the proper vacuum advance distributor and on the individual components and wiring harnesses could cost about $200-$300 if you have to buy them new.

Good stuff to know. I think I am going to go with a new Edelbrock carb and headers, so the intake is the only thing I will need right now.

In that case you'll need the Edelbrock Performer intake. It has smallish intake ports closer to 318 size. It's 50-state legal. The only 318's that had 4V carb from the factory was the E46, and consisted of the 360 intake and heads with matching large ports.
