Default Upgrading Stock Stereo Head

Greetings -

First post - forum seems like it has a ton of excellent information.

I bought my first Ram (first truck - had cars) earlier this month and love it so far. I got the 2010 Ram Big Horn edition but it only has the stock non-touch screen stereo head with the Alpine system upgrade. I am not looking to crank my music or anything, but I do want to add something to make the cab look better as well as get rid of that garbage UConnect system.

I don't want to spend the extra cash for a GPS head unit as most (from my understanding) are slow to re-route and my Garmin works great. I believe I want to install this unit: Pioneer AVH x5500BHS.

I have never modified anything on a vehicle before but I figure this is a good place to start. Outside of the wiring harness needed to keep the steering wheel controls working, it is my understanding that this unit should install almost flush. Is there anything that I should pay attention to or that I may lose in going with a modification like this? Also, my truck has Sirius and this appears to be compatible. Do I need to purchase anything additional to keep the satellite radio and hi-def radios working?

Thanks for any assistance or tips. Also - I am entirely open to stereo head suggestions or places to get them that you may have experience with!

You'll most likely need an external Sirius tuner. They plug into the back of the radio and the antenna plugs into it. You'll need to modify the dash too. The

Call up or chat online with the people at Crutchfield. Let them know what you want and they will line you up with everything you need. You cant get better service than they have.

I agree with going to the Crutchfield website
just enter your Rams information & go from there

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-OVp6FPB...Video-GPS.html

the radio that you mentioned is Double Din 4" x 7" radio, which will need some trimming in your dash, several members have done this modification & it looks good

your current radio is a 1 1/2 DIN, 3" x 7"
