Hi, I have a 2012 crew cab express I bought the light and wire loom to install the underhood light. Does anyone have pics of the instalation? What is used to attahe the light to the hood, how do you route the wire loom? Where do you plug the loom in? do you have to remove the hood insulation before assembly? Thank you, this is my first post. Tom
It is very easy to do, you should not need any pictures. The connector for the light will be in the passenger side cowl area right at the firewall and will have a termination cap protecting the contacts. DO NOT try to pry out any of the large plastic clips that hold the hood insulation on: it's not necessary and they will break leaving the little plastic tang to rattle forever around inside the hood. Just feed the harness thru the cutout for the light housing until it comes out near the connector. You will need a couple of fir tree clips to hold the light housing to the underside of the hood. They are available at any auto parts store usually in the section with all the hard-to-find do-dads. If you don't know what they look like, google "fir tree clips" under images and you'll probably recognize them.
As I recall, the light will only sit comfortably one way with enough harness to reach the connector. When you have everything layed out right, it should become obvious where the harness clips in, etc.
Be sure to check that the light goes out when you close the hood.
That's it. Takes all of five minutes once you have the fir tree clips.
