Default SSBC upgrade kit

Upgrading my brakes and saw the SSBC 'upgrade' kit. Just what is the upgrade and how is it different from a big brake kit? The upgrade kit has new slotted rotors and calipers, but is it really any better than stock? Would I be better off with Brembos big brake kit?

I'm searching for answers to the same question but its been hard to find information on how to improved the braking performance of the 4th Gen 1500. My vehicle can't even generate enough force to get the anti-lock braking system to engage on dry pavement. I was expecting more.

The SSBC rotors are only .8 inches larger than stock. Can that provide enough improvement? Will better brake pads and ss braided brakelines add enough improvement?

Just got off the phone with SSBC. They recommended going with the 3-piston caliber kit. They are going to discontinue the 4-piston as they protrude outward too much and interfere with most stock wheels, even the 20-inchers. They said the 3-piston provides about 20% more clamping force than the stock caliper and use Corvette brake pads. Having the 14" rotor gives the brake system more leverage to handle the 20-inch wheel/tire combination that can overpower the stock brakes. You have to reuse you existing brakelines so I will likely get ss braided ones to help stiffen the pedal some more. One kicker in the deal is when new rotors are required, they cost about $250 a piece or $175 if you don't need new hats. He suggested Summit Racing and JEGS as the best place to get them. Just plan on 4-week delivery because it takes some time to build them.

I like my 15" rotors and 4 piston calipers up front and 2 pistons out back.
