Default Uconnect Question

Hey guys, I bought a '10 Ram SLT Big Horn edition about 4 months ago and absolutely love the truck. Saying that I do a lot of traveling for work and thought the Uconnect service would be very useful to have. I sat around for a good 30-45 min trying to figure out how to get it to work only to find out my truck didn't come with it (minus the buttons of course).

Now my question is, can this be installed by an aftermarket company? I absolutely hate the dealer I bought my truck from and would rather avoid going back to them for anything. Or is that my only option; to pay my stealership a premium to have it installed?

Thanks for the help!

I'm pretty sure you can get kits from the dealer that you can install yourself. I still believe you need to have the dealer "flash" the unit into the truck so the functions will work correctly. If you do a search on here you can find some info on the subject.

Just go to another dealer and use them. They'll be glad to take your money.

If you have the factory radios with the uConnect buttons, you can install it yourself (I installed mine and it only took an hour); however, like GearHd6 stated, you'll have to get the dealer to "reflash" your computer so it recognizes the uConnect module. That's about $50. Another company can install the module, but I think you'll still need the dealership to flash it. I second the idea of taking it to another dealer.

Good point. The modules list for around $400, but you can get them online for almost half that. I got mine on eBay for around $250.

if you have either the RES radios, ( one comes with the phone button, the other does not )
or the RBZ or RHB radio, it also takes the external module

The external Uconnect kit usually run about $365 plus the $50 flash by the dealership

I would go to Crutchfields website & buy an aftermarket radio that fits & get more goodies for the same or less $$$$ & no dealer flash
http://www.crutchfield.com/g_300/Car...vers.html?pg=6
they state that they either FIT or Modified Fit, which means a bit of hidden dash carving

your current radio is a 1.5 DIN 3" x 7"
double din is 4" x 7" ( modified fit )

look online for PN 82212159 which is the main kit. It has the module, harness, mic & install cd.
Look also for PN 82212160 which is the optional USB / Uconnect cable.
